Thank you for taking the time to visit our class page, we hope you find it useful, interesting and informative.   Your child will work with 3 teachers this year who teach as a team in upper key stage 2: Mrs Griffiths, Mrs Borlase and Mrs Frear.   Mrs Frear will take Year 5 for one hour per week of Expressive Arts lessons, whilst Mrs Borlase will teach one hour of grammar skills.

Mr Morton and Miss Boswell are the class Teaching Assistants.   All our staff work hard to build and maintain superb working relationships with children and parents to ensure that our children achieve their potential.   Please do feel free to come and say ‘hello’ on a morning or afternoon whilst you drop off your child and collect them from school.

All our teaching in Year 5 is delivered with the idea that our most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.   We don’t believe in the word ‘can’t’ in Year 5, and instead are working hard to try our best with a growth mind set: before we can achieve, we must first make some mistakes as they are crucial to our learning.

Children in Year 5 have a rich and exciting curriculum. Our Autumn topic is World War 2. This will be used as a stimulus for our writing in literacy, and we are also using it for our class reading. We are currently reading ‘Carrie's War’ by Nina Bawden together.   Our writing skills will develop across all subjects in science, history, geography and R.E.   In maths we are securing our understanding of place value to 1,000,000 and growing in understanding and confidence at using the four operations of number.

To help your child- please get involved.  Be excited about reading with them and talk to them about their learning.
