Thank you for visiting the Year 4 class page – we hope you find it interesting and helpful.

Year 4 is a busy year with lots of exciting things going on and plenty of opportunity for the children to get really animated about their learning, and we hope that you do too! You are always welcome to pop in and say ‘hello’ on a morning or at the end of the day as you drop off and collect your children.

We will be developing our maths skills over the year, starting with place value of number and building on these skills to move on to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, shape and measurement. We will be having a whole class focus on learning all of our times tables this year and to help with this, every child has a login for Times Table Rockstars ( – the more they can play on this, the better!  Please ask if you would like more information to support your child further at home.

We will be practising our writing skills to write for a different purpose each half term. This half term, we are writing to inform and will be covering genres such as a recount and explanation text. These genres will also be covered in our reading lessons to support our learning.

To help your child - please get involved -

Homework this year includes:

Reading with your child every night

Completing a half termly maths skill (which will be quizzed weekly every Friday)

Talking to them about their learning

There is a lot going on in Year 4. Please keep an eye on letters coming home in your child’s bag, Parenthub (@StLawrences) and Twitter.

Please follow us on Twitter @mrsgstlaws for photos, questions and updates!

Year 4 Class Mission Statement

'In Year 4 we are caring - we make sure that no one is left to play on their own, and let others get on with their learning in the classroom so they can do their best.  We also try our best to resolve any friendship fallouts quickly, as this helps us to be happy inside and outside of the classroom!

We take responsibility of our own actions and value honesty in this class - even if we think that being truthful might get us into trouble.

We care about living things and helping them - we over being outside with nature and learning from the world around us.

We are thankful for what we have and know that some other people aren't as lucky as us. We would really like to help people who aren't as fortunate as us and are interested in learning more about what we can to help.

We never give up, even when we're struggling and we enjoy helping each other with things they are finding difficult, especially in our learning.

Year 4 love going on trips and showing those around us how amazing we are!

You'd be so welcome to come and see for yourself!'
